Walk Details
The rugged Cornish coastline, with its high cliffs and steep paths, aren’t always conducive to wheelchair travel – but this walk is an exception and links up two magnificent view points. We’re starting at the YHA at Lizard Point / National Trust car park. We recommend taking some time either before or after the walk to explore the area here around the lighthouse.
It’s a steep slope that we take to start – heading down towards the cafe and the lifeboat house.
From the carpark take the road up to the village of Lizard. There is a purpose built footpath which runs parallel to the road which is perfect. In the village of Lizard there are a few shops and a pub and accessible loos are located near to the village green carpark. From here, take the bridleway signed post Kynance Cove.
Follow the bridleway until you reach the road. Turn Left. This road leads down to the National Trust Carpark at Kynance Cove.
Access to the cove itself is by foot only (it’s a very steep path down and unsuitable for any type of wheelchair). However there is a purpose built accessible path which leads to a viewpoint on the clifftop. This view certainly has a wow factor and the path is suitable for a manual wheelchair. It’s the perfect spot for a picnic here. There are no refreshment facilities at the carpark, so take your own food and drink.
Access TOG Verdict:
If you’re a manual wheelchair user – you are going to struggle on this walk. We would recommend having an all terrain due to some steep and bumpy sections of the path in places.
It is possible to take your car down to the cafe at the start – although it’s worth noting that the views from the Lighthouse are stunning!

Remember to prepare properly before heading out on any type of walk or outdoor activity. Tell people where you are going and what time you are expected back. As Wainwright says "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing".
