Running a business from home kind of turns life into one really long to-do list. You’ve got the emails everywhere, orders piling up, the same four walls staring back. It’s so easy to forget what fresh air even smells like when everything’s happening inside. Now, sure, not all businesses are like that; some people are able to run and do businesses outside, and good for them, of course. But as you might have guessed, being cooped up inside all day is basically the environment for burnout.
Sometimes stepping outside is the only thing that reminds the brain it’s still attached to a human body. As fun as it might be to hike in the mountains before breakfast, or go sit by the shore of a lake to reply to some emails, no, it doesn’t need to be anything like that. Don’t put that pressure on yourself, either, of course. Instead, you just need some outdoor moments here and there. Your brain needs to finally relax; it needs to finally just chill for a bit. Well, that, and maybe not being around any screens too.
It’s Time to Step Away from Screens
So, it’s probably for the best to just start here; screens have this wild ability to make time disappear. Like, think about it; one second it’s 9 am, and then it’s… well, who even knows anymore. That’s one of the problems with doomscrolling: time just fades. But just taking a quick breather outdoors helps reset everything. It sounds generic, but this really does work. So, your shoulders loosen up, your eyes stop squinting at tiny text, and thoughts start flowing again instead of playing bumper cars in your head.
Now, if you run a business, sometimes there’s just stuff that needs to be done, but not everything actually needs to be done with a screen. Well, it’s really going to depend on what you’re doing, of course, but you could look into printing some things off instead. Thankfully, printer ink isn’t that expensive, well, depending on where you buy it. So you could print your to-do list, or print out some of your work that needs to be done, and just do it the old-fashioned way. That whole “analog” style can seriously feel quite soothing. So you should try it sometime.
Get Moving a Little
Maybe this one is obvious here, but how often do you get to move around while working? Plus, keep in mind that hours and time are blurred when you run your own business, because you’re so busy just doing that. So, no one’s saying a marathon is required. Even a tiny walk to check the post or chill on the balcony makes life feel less like an office cage. But just go outside for a bit, even during lunch break, and let your brain princess the day. Again, keep it screen-free.
Let Nature do the Thinking for a While
Nature just has a way of calming people, and yeah, you better believe that science even backs that up, too. It gives the mind new stuff to play with, and creativity starts sneaking back in. So, work problems feel a tiny bit smaller when there’s an actual horizon to look at instead of a wall ten inches away.
