Cleatop Wood offers a lovely circular walk of around four miles, a stroll along a green lane and across farmland brings guests to the ancient woodland, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As well as bluebells as far as the eye can see as walkers wander up through the wood when you emerge from the trees there is an excellent view of Yorkshire’s Three Peaks mountains and the upper reaches of North Ribblesdale.
Then when you’ve exhausted the great outdoors head back to Falcon Manor for a sumptuous meal and relaxing overnight stay in one of our boutique bedrooms, followed by a fabulous breakfast the following morning.
The Three Peaks walk traditionally starts at nearby Horton in Ribblesdale at the Pen-y-ghent Café, where walkers can clock-in and out to time their walk. This walk is for the very fit, but there are plenty of shorter walks in the area for walkers of all abilities. The Ingleton Waterfall Trail is a delightful walk and photographer’s dream with some of the best waterfalls in the UK, including Thornton Force. If, no, when you visit Snowdonia, you have to pay a visit to Portmeiron as it’s a very unique location for a wander and a novel!
In the novel, the writer, Josephine Tey, joins her friends in the holiday village of Portmeirion to celebrate her fortieth birthday. Alfred Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville, are there to sign a deal to film Josephine’s novel. However, tragedy strikes and a mystery ensues…
There’s some strong literary heritage here too – Portmeirion is a tourist village designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975. Apparently inspired by Portofino on the Italian Riviera. The village now is owned by a charitable trust.
